What is Predatory Lending?

Predatory lending constitutes a range of abusive practices. Some of these practices include:

What is TILA and RESPA?

TILA is the Truth in Lending Act. It was created by Congress to protect consumers. The Act states,

The purpose of this regulation is to promote the informed use of consumer credit by requiring disclosures about its terms and cost. The regulation also gives consumers the right to cancel certain credit transactions that involve a lien on a consumer's principal dwelling. Regulation Z, 12 CFR Section 226, which implements TILA, 15 USC §§ 1601, et seq.

RESPA is the Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act. It requires lenders to provide information about all of the costs of a loan at the front of a lending transaction. It also prohibits kickbacks in the process of a real estate loan.
